thousands of people stranded wanting to get airlifted from libya and tunisia
Libya's borders have turned into sprawling tent cities as massive operations got under way to rescue tens of thousands of refugees stranded in the troubled country.
More than 180,000 desperate refugees fearful of the country's violent civil war are estimated to have reached the border crossings.
Egypt and European nations including Britain and France launched emergency airlifts and sent ships to handle the chaotic exodus.
More than 77,300 people have crossed east from Libya into Egypt, most of them Egyptians, while a similar number have fled west from Libya into Tunisia. Another 30,000 more were still waiting in Libya at the border, trying to get into Tunisia.
